Avian influenza detected in De Krim

Avian influenza has been detected at a broiler farm in De Krim (Overijssel). It is likely a highly pathogenic variant. To prevent the spread, the 26,000 chickens at the farm are being culled by the NVWA.

In the 1-kilometer zone around the infected farm, there are no other poultry farms. In the 3-kilometer zone, there are 10 farms being screened for avian influenza by the NVWA. These farms will be closely monitored for 14 days for symptoms. In the 10-kilometer zone, there are 42 poultry farms. Due to a previous infection in Germany, a transport ban was already in place, which is now extended to a radius of 10 kilometers around the infected farm. There will be no housing or shielding obligation in the region.

Transport Ban

The transport ban applies to all birds and eggs from farms with birds. This ban also includes manure and bedding from birds, as well as other animals and products from poultry farms. There are rules for hunting; in this area, it is prohibited to hunt ducks or in areas where waterfowl may be disturbed. See the current infections and measures on the map in the Disease Viewer from the RVO.

National Measures

There are still national measures in place, such as a ban on visiting high-risk bird habitats unless absolutely necessary. High-risk birds include poultry (like chickens), waterfowl, and shorebirds. In some regions, there are also housing and shielding obligations. More information about the housing and shielding obligation can be found on the NVWA website at more information about the housing and shielding obligation. There is also a ban on exhibiting poultry, waterfowl, and shorebirds.

Tracing Investigation

In the case of the infection in De Krim, a tracing investigation is conducted into risky contacts. If necessary, additional measures will be taken based on the investigation results. These potential additional measures will be communicated via an update in this press release and through the online channels of the Ministry of LNV.
