Unrest Around Football Match FC Volendam – Ado Den Haag

Around the match Volendam – Ado Den Haag, there was unrest in and around the stadium on Friday evening. Despite the mandatory bus combination for Ado Den Haag supporters, some supporters also traveled independently to Volendam.

Upon arrival in Volendam, the group of about 60 people was found to have no valid tickets and were denied access to the stadium. The away supporters did not accept this and broke through security, taking their place among the Volendam supporters. This resulted in a steward being injured, creating significant tension in the stadium. As a result, the match also started some time later.

During the match, the police escalated their presence to prevent a possible confrontation by having enough officers on site. Officers from basic teams across the entire North Holland unit were sent to Volendam to assist their colleagues from the Purmerend team. Officers from the Purmerend team were also held longer to assist. Other teams also kept officers on duty longer.

After the match, Volendam supporters sought confrontation with the Ado Den Haag supporters who were in the home stands. Stones and bottles were thrown at the police, and these Volendam supporters attempted to reach the Ado Den Haag supporters. They also gathered to throw stones at the buses of the Ado Den Haag supporters who had come with the mandatory bus combination. These Ado Den Haag supporters remained calm and were able to leave Volendam without any issues.

At multiple moments, officers were pelted with objects and attacked by Volendam supporters. A dog handler was cornered during the operation and had to be rescued by other officers. The service dog was kicked, and the dog handler had to keep people at bay by striking them with a baton. During the operation around the stadium, officers had to stand in formation multiple times and also had to use their batons.

Officers were also successful in safely escorting the Ado Den Haag supporters out of the stadium. After that, calm returned around the stadium. The police arrested one person, who was bitten by a police dog. The police are conducting an investigation and do not rule out further arrests. The situation in and around the stadium will also be discussed with the triangle and the football club.
