Blockade A12 Causes Longer Response Times

Area: Den Haag

The A12 is blocked again, causing significant traffic congestion. Ambulances had to reroute, leading to longer response times. Over seven hundred protesters were arrested.

Hundreds of people blocked the A12 and surrounding roads at the mayors request. Protests were allowed at Malieveld. The traffic disruptions forced ambulances to take alternative routes, resulting in longer response times. The city was also difficult to access for vehicles.

Removing Blockades

The blockades were removed using a water cannon, first at the intersection near Koningskade and later on the A12. The deployment of the water cannon follows strict regulations as outlined in the Police Act. People are warned in advance before the water is used, and the incident is assessed afterward. Protesters are always given the chance to voluntarily end their demonstration.

Arrests

Protesters were repeatedly asked to clear the blockade and move to the designated location at Malieveld. Ultimately, over seven hundred individuals were arrested for ignoring the request. Most arrests were made for violating the Public Demonstration Act (WOM).

Twelve people were arrested for other offenses, such as incitement and assault. They are being questioned at the police station.
