The report began with a threat between two acquaintances. During this investigation, information emerged that there might be explosive materials in this warehouse.
Explosive Ordnance Disposal
During a first survey of the building, a large amount of flash powder was discovered. Therefore, as a precaution, an area of 50 to 100 meters around the warehouse was cordoned off. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) was on-site to further investigate the building, remove the found materials, and safely detonate them elsewhere.
During a second and third survey of the building, additional materials that can be used for making explosives were found again. Around 9:00 PM, the surrounding area of the building was cleared.
Arrest
A 28-year-old man from Ossendrecht was arrested for possession of the materials. He is also a suspect in the investigation into the threat. He is still in custody.
Substances
The NFI is investigating the exact composition of the substances. It appears that a total of hundreds of grams of flash powder have been discovered. Flash powder is a very sensitive substance that can ignite with a small spark from, for example, a statically charged wool sweater. Additionally, several kilos of a substance were found that is not explosive on its own but becomes so when mixed.
