New Fast Boats for the Navy and Army

Defence is acquiring 13 fast vessels. They will replace the current Frisc’s. The Haas Shipyards in Rotterdam is building the so-called Future Fast Interceptors (FFI). The contracts were signed on March 10, 2025.

The new boats are more modern, faster, and better armed than the Frisc’s (fast raiding interception and special forces craft). They also have an improved sensor and communication system. Additionally, they are harder to detect by the enemy. Moreover, the focus is on reducing the physical strain on personnel. Innovations in hull and seats soften hard shocks at speed in combination with high waves.

The Future Fast Interceptors (FFI) will be included in the inventory of army units. However, the Maritime Special Operations Forces (Marsof) of the Marine Corps will take most of them into use. The vessels are intended for boarding and other special operations in the highest spectrum of violence.

Maritime Industry

Although not a decisive factor, the choice of a Dutch supplier contributes to the stimulation of the own maritime industry. The Haas Shipyards is expected to deliver the 13 vessels within 3.5 years.
