Around 11:30 PM, a report came in that a vehicle had driven into a ditch on Boerenweg. Upon arrival, officers indeed saw a vehicle partially in the ditch. The officers soon suspected that the man was under the influence of alcohol. He was therefore required to cooperate with a breathalyzer test. The 30-year-old man from Bergen op Zoom, however, was not very cooperative as he claimed not to have driven. However, statements made it clear that the man had likely driven himself. During the conversation with an officer, the man attempted to walk away several times and ultimately grabbed the officer. He was then arrested for resistance. Upon inspection of the vehicle, the officers also found fireworks.
In the police transport van to the police station, the man resisted violently and insulted the officers. He also kicked the seats and spat in the van. The man was then brought under control with the use of pepper spray. During a search at the police cell, it was discovered that the man was also carrying a weapon and vandalized his police cell. He was subsequently arrested as a suspect for threats and vandalism.
