Calm Champions League Evening

Gebied: Eindhoven

The Champions League evening of PSV, on Tuesday in Eindhoven, proceeded without major public order incidents. The day before the match, we did arrest a group of troublemakers, which may have contributed to a calm match day.

The day of the match proceeded without noteworthy incidents and counted only a few arrests. From the early afternoon, the city center filled with carnival crowds and English football supporters, who made it a celebration together. That festive mood was no longer there for the PSV supporters after the match, but even then, there were hardly any incidents.

Group Arrest
However, on Monday evening, the police already arrested 19 individuals in the city center of Eindhoven. Information had indicated that part of the hardcore PSV supporters might have been planning to disrupt public order and seek confrontation with Arsenal supporters. When members of that Eindhoven group exhibited intimidating behavior on Stratumseind on Monday evening, which threatened to lead to disturbances, they were detained by the police. A number of individuals managed to escape, but the rest were arrested under the municipal ordinance of Eindhoven. They spent the night in the police station and were released on Tuesday after questioning. A report is being drawn up against them.

Area Bans on Match Day
In addition to a report, all suspects were issued an area ban for the broad vicinity of the stadium and the city center on behalf of the mayor of Eindhoven, which expired on Wednesday at 8 AM. Violating this area ban would result in a penalty of €1000 per occurrence. Apart from this measure, the tickets of the arrested suspects were blocked by PSV for this match as an extra precaution. In the end, no individuals with an area ban were observed within the area they were prohibited from. We reflect on a good collaboration between all safety partners in the fight against football hooligans, which may have contributed to the calmness of the match day itself.
