Man Assaults Officer in Purmerend

Gebied: Purmerend

First arrested for resistance, then assaulting an officer: a 19-year-old from Purmerend really went overboard.

On Friday, March 7, the man was riding a scooter without a helmet, and, as later turned out, also without a drivers license. Because this was not the first time, his scooter was confiscated. When the man heard this, he attempted to flee. He was stopped but kept trying. In the process, an officer was injured. The man was arrested with the help of bystanders.
At the police station, the suspect was placed in a holding cell to await his interrogation. He then punched an officer and had to be subdued. The officer is doing well under the circumstances.

Resistance

He who resists with violence or the threat of violence against a public official acting in the lawful exercise of his duties is stated in the Code of Criminal Procedure. It is intended to ensure that officials, in this case police officers, can do their work properly.

The man must also account for the assault on the officer; violence against officials carries an increased penalty.
