Men Arrested for Assaulting Police Officers

Gebied: Oldenzaal

Incidents took place in the center of Oldenzaal. Violence against emergency workers is unacceptable!

A 21-year-old man from Oldenzaal was checked on Sunday evening, March 2, around 8:35 PM for ignoring an area ban. The man was present in the center of Oldenzaal, while earlier that day he had received an area ban for disturbing public order. The 21-year-old was informed that he was being arrested for violating this ban. He then resisted. During his resistance, the man punched a police officer multiple times in the face. He also pulled out clumps of hair from the officers head. To gain control over the suspect, another police officer used pepper spray. The 21-year-old man, known to the police, was arrested for attempted aggravated assault and placed in custody.

Man Becomes Aggressive After Falling Ill
Earlier in the evening, around 7:30 PM, a report of a person falling ill came in at Marktstraat in Oldenzaal. Police officers found a 58-year-old man from Schuttdorf. He was under the influence of alcohol. While the officers tried to help the man and asked for his ID, he became angry and aggressive. He attempted to punch a police officer in the face. The man was subsequently arrested. He resisted violently, managed to destroy a radio, and punched an officer in the face. The man was then handcuffed and taken to the police detention center in Borne. He spent a night in jail and was released the next day.

Violence Against Emergency Workers is Unacceptable
In both cases, the police officers filed charges of assault. The police and the Public Prosecution Service consider aggression and violence against employees with a public duty unacceptable. Police officers have a responsible role in society and must be able to do their work without being hindered. With mutual respect. Aggression or violence, in any form, against employees is not tolerated.
