Human Rights Ambassador Wim Geerts in conversation with Kenyan diaspora

This afternoon, the Dutch Human Rights Ambassador, Wim Geerts, spoke with members of the Kenyan diaspora. The discussion focused on the human rights situation in Kenya and the planned state visit of the Royal Couple to the country in March.

During the conversation, the ambassador received a petition calling for the state visit to be canceled due to the human rights situation in Kenya. The ambassador discussed the criticism and listened to the concerns of Kenyans living in the Netherlands.

Ambassador Wim Geerts: It is good to hear what concerns are at play and to discuss them. This also helps me to do my work better. The Netherlands is engaged in various dialogues on this issue. This will also be addressed during the state visit, where discussions will take place with both Kenyan authorities and civil society organizations and youth.

Ambassador Wim Geerts will travel to Kenya this month to engage in discussions with youth, civil society, human rights defenders, and Kenyan authorities.
