Response Police Inspection Report Vlaardingen Foster Girl

Area: Rotterdam

In May 2024, a then 10-year-old girl living in a foster home in Vlaardingen was severely injured and admitted to the hospital. The foster parents of the girl are suspected of attempted manslaughter and serious assault on their foster daughter and have been arrested. The criminal investigation is still ongoing. Meanwhile, the Health and Youth Care Inspectorate (IGJ) and the Inspectorate of Justice and Security (J&V) are investigating the quality and safety of the care provided to the foster girl. Today, the conclusions and key findings of that investigation have been published.

Response Police
This is an intensely sad case. In society, we have felt the impact of this, but it also made a deep impression within the police organization. We believe it is important that a critical independent investigation has been conducted into the actions of all agencies involved. It is in the interest of everyone, and especially for vulnerable parties involved, that all parties critically reflect on themselves and continue to learn. As with all impactful cases, we also reflect on ourselves. We must work together to ensure that such situations are prevented in the future.
