Avian Influenza Detected in Border Area of Germany

In Hoogstede, just across the border in Germany, avian influenza has been detected at a laying farm. Germany has established a restriction area that also extends into the Netherlands. Therefore, a restriction zone has been set up around Nieuw-Schoonebeek, municipality of Emmen, in Drenthe by the Minister of Agriculture.

Transport Ban

Due to the outbreak near the Dutch border, a transport ban applies within a 10-kilometer zone in the Netherlands. There is one poultry farm in this area. No poultry, hatching eggs, or consumption eggs may be transported from locations with birds in this zone. There is also a ban on the disposal of manure and bedding from birds, as well as other animals and animal products from farms with birds. These measures are necessary to prevent further spread. Details can be found on the disease viewer of RVO.

Tracing Investigation

Following this infection, Germany will conduct a tracing investigation to determine the source and potential risky contacts.
