At around 11:00 PM, the control room received a report of a man possibly attempting to steal a scooter at the Stationsplein. Officers went to the scene immediately and indeed found a person with burglary tools in his possession. Earlier that evening, they had received a similar report and saw the same suspect. At that time, however, he was not committing an offense and had no suspicious items with him.
Later that evening, the man made another attempt. The 31-year-old suspect from Gilze fled when officers tried to arrest him. After a foot chase, officers tried to handcuff him, but he resisted vigorously. They ultimately arrested him in the front yard of a house nearby, where a resident came to their aid.
The suspect was taken to the station. There, he continued to resist. An investigation will determine what role he exactly had in this possible attempted theft.
