Burglary after explosion at Drents Museum in Assen

Around 03:45 AM, the police received a report of an explosion at the Drents Museum in Assen. A door was forced with explosives and several archaeological masterpieces, including the golden helmet of Cotofenesti, were stolen.

The explosion caused damage to the museum, but there were no injuries and no arrests have been made. We suspect multiple perpetrators.

The police have immediately escalated and are conducting further investigations. Neighborhood inquiries are being made, forensic investigators are present, and surveillance footage is being reviewed. The focus is on apprehending the suspects and recovering the stolen masterpieces. Interpol has been engaged for international cooperation in the investigation.

Possible suspect vehicle found near Rolde
An investigation is also underway regarding a suspect vehicle. Around 04:15 AM, we received a report of a car fire at the intersection of Grolloërstraat and Marwijksoord with the N33. No one was present at the burning car. We are investigating whether this car is linked to the explosion and burglary at the museum. It is possible that suspects switched vehicles in the vicinity of the fire.

Residents near the museum and the fire site may have seen suspicious individuals or vehicles between 03:00 and 04:30 AM. Footage from doorbell cameras or dashcams may provide crucial information for the investigation.
