Suspicious Situation
Around 02:30 AM, the residents were awakened by sounds of a break-in in their home. They decided to take a look and saw three individuals walking around the house. The residents hid themselves in the house and immediately called 112. When the police arrived on the scene, the three suspects fled on foot. They ran towards the police with a suspicious object in hand, prompting the police to warn them and order them to stop for arrest. When they continued to run towards the police, an officer fired a warning shot into the air. Nevertheless, the three kept running.
Chase Through Gardens
The three suspects climbed over fences through various (back) gardens of residents on Apollolaan and Hadesstraat. The dispatcher positioned various police units around the apartment block so that the fleeing suspects could not escape unnoticed. Neighbors who witnessed the scene helped the police by providing directions on where the suspects were heading. The police helicopter also maintained aerial surveillance of the situation. Two suspects were quickly found behind a hedge and arrested by the police. The third was also apprehended but attempted to flee and did not respond to commands. As a result, the police dog handler was deployed, leading to the arrest of the third suspect as well.
Three Arrests
The three arrested suspects are a 42-year-old man, a 22-year-old man, and a 20-year-old man, all from Almere. The 42-year-old man had to go to the hospital to receive treatment for a bite wound. The police searched with a service dog for possible burglary tools, which were later found. The trio is suspected of attempted burglary.
