One component of the short 10-minute episodes is the alerts from Opgelicht?!, the platform of AVROTROS where everything about online fraud can be found. It warns about currently circulating phishing emails and fraud schemes.
Thanks to the valuable tips from the helpful viewers of the national detection program, Detection Requested has an average resolution rate of about 40%. The possibility to solve even more crimes with the help of the public is something the police embraces wholeheartedly. Daan Annegarn from the national police detection communication team states: “Because there are more and more surveillance cameras, there is a lot of good footage that we are eager to broadcast to find perpetrators. This extra airtime on Monday filled with surveillance images is a great opportunity to make the Netherlands even safer and more resilient. Tips from viewers are often of invaluable worth.”
The regular live broadcasts of Detection Requested on Tuesdays remain unchanged. “Of course, we will continue to produce the major live broadcasts on Tuesday. They contain very important elements that encourage tipsters to share information. The reconstruction of crimes, interviews with victims, and the polices explanation in the studio are still of great value in solving cases,” says editor-in-chief Anniko van Santen.
