MONO Enforcement Action Returns to Southern Netherlands in 2025

Area: Zuid-Nederland

Police teams in Southern Netherlands focus on safe driving without distractions! The MONO campaign, aimed at reducing distractions in traffic, will start again in 2025. In addition to regular checks, the police announce extra MONO enforcement actions in Southern Netherlands. In 2024, there were over 34,000 fines for smartphone use while driving, with more than 2,800 on action days in Southern Netherlands. This shows that enforcement is crucial. The use of mobile devices can lead to traffic accidents. The police note that many violations occur unconsciously, highlighting the need for awareness and behavioral change.

The 2025 action aims to make road users aware of their violations and the risks of distraction while driving. The enforcement consists of two parts: a tour bus and a MONOcam. Police teams from Zeeland, North Brabant, and Limburg drive in tour buses. From this height, they can see if drivers are using their phones. In that case, a follow car is called in to pull over the offender for a fine. The police also explain the consequences of this behavior. Additionally, the MONOcam is used, a device designed to register smartphone use while driving from an overpass. After verification by the police, a fine is issued.

Police spokesperson: Road safety is of utmost importance. With this MONO enforcement action, we want to punish offenders but primarily create awareness. It is crucial that road users recognize the dangers of distraction and take responsibility to prevent it.

The police call on road users to be alert and focus on driving without distractions. The goal is to make the roads safer together. The fine for not using hands-free while calling is high, starting at €430 from March 1, 2025. Other distractions such as reading a newspaper or applying makeup can also lead to fines.

In Southern Netherlands, the MONO enforcement action will be carried out in 2025, aimed at combating distractions in traffic. In addition to regular daily checks, police teams will conduct 20 special action days. The provinces of Zeeland, North Brabant, and Limburg support this action to improve traffic safety.
