Amended Bill on Security Investigations Submitted to the House of Representatives

Minister Uitermark (Interior) and Minister Brekelmans (Defense) have submitted the amended bill on security investigations to the House of Representatives. This law provides more flexibility for employees in security functions who frequently change employers.

The key change is the introduction of a location-based certificate of no objection (vgb). This vgb remains valid when transitioning to a new position at the same designated location. For instance, think of someone working in the aviation sector who changes employers. This reduces administrative burdens and costs for the organizations involved, allowing for a smoother transition for the employee.

Current Insight into Security Functions

With the amendment of the Wvo, a register will provide insight into individuals in security functions. Employers are required to notify the AIVD and MIVDs Unit for Security Investigations (UVO) when someone begins or ceases to hold a security function. This way, the UVO maintains an up-to-date overview of all active security officials.

Finally, the opportunity is taken to implement several changes that improve the feasibility and enforceability of the Wvo in practice.
