Observant Viewers Help Police Identify Suspect in Bank Helpdesk Fraud

Gebied: Lage Zwaluwe / Oudenbosch

Observant viewers of the program Bureau Brabant helped the police identify a suspect in bank helpdesk fraud. As a result, the police were able to arrest him on Thursday, February 27, 2025, during the act. The suspect is a 16-year-old boy from Oudenbosch.

The police conducted an investigation into the fraud of a 77-year-old woman from Lage Zwaluwe. The victim received a call on Saturday afternoon, July 27, 2024, from a so-called bank employee. This employee, who claimed to work for the banks fraud department, wanted to warn the woman about theft. Ultimately, he managed to convince her that it would be wise to give money, bank card plus PIN, and jewelry to another bank employee who would safely store the items in a vault. Shortly thereafter, someone indeed came to the womans home in Lage Zwaluwe to collect the valuables. When the woman realized that the story was not true that evening, the police were informed.

Public Assistance

Police officers immediately launched a comprehensive investigation. They conducted a neighborhood survey and checked for available camera footage. During the investigation, it became clear that the womans card was used for a transaction in Breda that same Saturday evening, July 27. To identify the person who made the transaction, the police called for public assistance. The police published footage of the suspect on their website www.politie.nl and also requested help through the investigation program Bureau Brabant. Following these appeals, the police received several reports from people naming the same suspect. After consulting with the Public Prosecutor, the police arrested the suspect, a 16-year-old boy from Oudenbosch, on Thursday, February 27, in a house in that location. He has since given a statement and will have to account for himself in court in due time.
