This holding has been in contact with a previously infected location within 10 km where the owner purchased birds.
In the 1 km zone of the infected holding, there are no other poultry farms. In the 3 km zone, eight other poultry farms are being screened for avian influenza by the NVWA. In total, there are 21 poultry farms in the 10 km zone. A transport ban is in effect here. The holding is located in a region where the confinement obligation was lifted, but now a confinement and shielding obligation is in place.
Transport Ban
The transport ban applies to all birds and eggs from locations with birds. Manure and used bedding from birds are also included in this ban, as well as other animals and products from poultry farms. Additionally, hunting regulations are in place; it is prohibited to hunt ducks or in areas that may disturb waterfowl. Check the current infections and measures on the Animal Disease Viewer from the RVO.
National Measures
There are national measures such as a ban on visiting bird habitats of at-risk birds unless absolutely necessary. At-risk birds include poultry (like chickens), waterfowl, and shorebirds.
In several regions, the confinement and shielding obligation still applies for commercially kept birds. These must be brought inside, except for pheasants, ornamental waterfowl, and shorebirds. For non-commercially kept at-risk birds, such as those in zoos, petting farms, and private ownership, a shielding obligation applies. For more information about the confinement and shielding obligation, visit the NVWA website: NVWA. Exhibitions of poultry and waterfowl are also prohibited.
Tracing Investigation
As part of the infection at this location in Geesteren, a tracing investigation is conducted into risky contacts. If necessary, additional measures will be taken based on the findings of the investigation. These additional measures will be communicated via an update in this press release and through the online channels of the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV).
