Police Seek Witnesses After Shooting Incident in Nieuw-West

On January 28, 2025, a 28-year-old man from Amsterdam was seriously injured in a shooting incident at the corner of Van Gilsestraat and Sieg Vaz Diasstraat. The police are looking for witnesses.

At around 5:45 PM, the control room received a report of a fight between three men on the street, during which shots were fired. When officers arrived, it was confirmed that multiple shots had been fired. One man was injured and taken to the hospital by ambulance. Two other men fled the scene towards Burgemeester de Vlugtlaan. A search in the area did not lead to any arrests. Later that evening, a 29-year-old man with a gunshot wound was arrested in a hospital on suspicion of involvement in the shooting incident.

Daycare Center
Forensic experts investigated the crime scene and found a bullet hole in a window of a daycare center. What exactly happened is still unclear. The detectives are conducting further investigations and urge anyone who may have seen or heard anything around Van Gilsestraat, before or after the shooting, to come forward.
