Arrest after discovery of synthetic drug production site

Gebied: Schimmert

In a hidden space in a barn at a farm on Holswiejeweg in Schimmert, the police discovered a production site for the preparation of synthetic drugs on Tuesday, March 11. The resident of the farm has been arrested.

The police conducted a search of the relevant farm on Tuesday, March 11. In a hidden space, a production site had been set up. Besides a quantity of raw materials, the police found waste, burners, and other necessities for the production of synthetic drugs. The location was not operational, and no one was present in the space. The police also found cannabis cuttings in the farmhouse.

Decommissioning
The police are investigating which drugs were produced and research will determine how much drugs were manufactured. All discovered materials and raw materials have been seized and will be destroyed. The police are investigating the case. The National Facility for Decommissioning (LFO) and Forensic Investigation (FO) will continue with the decommissioning of the site.

Danger to the environment
A drug lab or storage facility poses a significant risk to residents and neighbors. Dangerous substances are used in the production of drugs. These can be harmful to humans and the environment and can lead to explosions, followed by fire. Additionally, a location where (raw materials for) drugs are stored or produced can lead to more criminal activities in the area, making the neighborhood less safe.

Strong synthetic odor
Drug labs can be located anywhere; in the countryside or in the big city, in barns, houses, garages, or apartment buildings. Signs that a drug lab may be present include a strong synthetic odor (anise-like or chemically irritating, sour, or acetone). In the relevant building, there are often gaps and/or windows sealed with spray foam. The windows may also be fogged, covered, or blocked; the curtains, for example, never open.

Report suspicious situations
If you suspect a drug lab, call the police at 112. You can also report anonymously at 0800-7000. More information on how to act when discovering a drug lab can be found here.
