Internet Consultation to Make Working with Asbestos Safer

A permit requirement will be introduced for companies that remove asbestos or carry out demolition work involving the removal of asbestos. This is stated in a legislative proposal that State Secretary Nobel has opened for internet consultation. The proposal stems from an amendment to the European directive on safe work with asbestos.

Currently, companies must be certified if they carry out work with asbestos above a certain threshold. Soon, a permit will be required for all work involving the removal of asbestos. A list will be created that includes the companies that have a permit.

In addition, the Bibob Act can be used during the permit granting process. This allows for an investigation into whether a company is using a permit to commit criminal offenses. If this is indeed the case, a permit cannot be granted or can be revoked.

To implement a permit requirement, to publicly disclose the list of companies that have a permit, and to use the Bibob Act, an amendment to the Working Conditions Act is necessary. This amendment is now in consultation. This means that everyone can respond to the proposals. The further elaboration of the changes will take place in the Arbo Decree. This will go into consultation later.
