Zr.Ms. Tromp departs for NATO mission

Zr.Ms. Tromp departs on Saturday, January 4, as flagship from Den Helder for the Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 (SNMG1). A Dutch commander will lead the maritime group throughout 2025.

Commander Arjen Warnaar will take over command of SNMG1 from Danish Commodore Thomas Stig Rasmussen on January 9. This will take place at the naval base Haakonsvern in Norway.

Maritime Safety

SNMG1 is a group of ships from NATO countries. This fleet is for deterrence and maintaining security in maritime areas, achieved through patrols and participating in operations.

The composition of the fleet varies. The Netherlands contributes several naval vessels and staff to support Commander Warnaar.
The ships are part of the NATO Very High Readiness Joint Task Force.

NH90 Maritime Combat Helicopter

Zr.Ms. Tromp is one of four air defense and command frigates of the De Zeven Provinciën-class. These vessels can protect the fleet against hostile threats, such as attacks with aircraft and missiles.

Zr.Ms. Tromp is equipped with an NH90 maritime combat helicopter from the Defense Helicopter Command.
