The European Union (EU) proudly participates in the Mining Indaba conference to foster sustainable and mutually beneficial partnerships with Africas mining sector. The EU, along with its Member States, banks, and private sector, is ready to collaborate with African partners to enhance the mining industry, ensuring economic growth, environmental sustainability, and innovation.
The EU unveiled a 112 m² Team Europe Pavilion at the conference, showcasing its investment in Africas mining future through the Global Gateway. This effort is supported by The Netherlands, Sweden, Belgium, Business France, BRGM, and EIT Raw Materials, emphasizing a united approach to the mining sectors challenges and opportunities.
In parallel, the EU builds on the success of the inaugural South Africa-EU Investment Seminar with a second event to accelerate South Africas development of critical raw material value chains. The seminar includes remarks by EUs Henrik Hololei and Deputy Minister Zuko Godlimpi, focusing on sustainable investments and value chain integration.
The EU supports responsible mining and secure access to critical raw materials. With rising demand for materials like lithium, rare earth metals, and cobalt, the EUs Global Gateway strategy invests in infrastructure and innovation to meet these needs. The EU collaborates with African nations to strengthen supply chains and promote sustainable development.
