The European Union (EU) is enhancing digital cooperation with the Caribbean through an MoU with Hispasat, a top European satellite provider. This aims to boost broadband and digital sovereignty using EU space services.
Signed during the CARICOM Summit in Barbados, the MoU with the Caribbean Telecommunication Union is part of the EU-LAC Digital Alliance, promoting regional digital investment. Hispasats CONDOSAT satellite program will extend to more LAC countries.
The EU and Spain are investing €10 million to improve sovereignty and connectivity, ensuring remote areas access reliable broadband. This is part of Team Europes broader support, involving grants, credits, loans, and technical aid from Spain, the European Commission, and IFIs.
This partnership showcases the EUs goal of building resilient digital infrastructure and aligning the Caribbeans digital transformation with European standards, boosting regional sovereignty in a competitive geopolitical setting.
