Two Arrests for Robberies After Appointments via Dating Apps

On Wednesday, March 5, two suspects were arrested for three (attempted) robberies in Wijchen. The robberies occurred after victims made an appointment through a dating app. Upon arrival at the location, the appointment turned out to have a different purpose.

The two suspects (men aged 17 and 18 from Wijchen) are also suspected of a home invasion in Nijmegen on September 25, 2024. In this case, an appointment was also made with the suspect after contact via a dating app, but this time at the victims home. The victim was assaulted and threatened.

What Happened During the Robberies?

The first robbery occurred on Sunday evening, January 5, near the Zuiderpoort shopping center. The victims bank card was taken and used for transactions. The second robbery took place in the adjacent park of the shopping center on Thursday evening, January 9. Nothing was taken during this incident. The two victims were assaulted and threatened. On Monday evening, February 24, a third attempted robbery occurred, during which this victim was also assaulted. Nothing was taken here.

The suspects were presented to the authorities on Friday, March 7, and will remain in custody for two more weeks.
