Avian Influenza Confirmed in Idsegahuizum

Avian influenza has been confirmed at a laying farm in Idsegahuizum (municipality of Súdwest-Fryslân, province of Friesland). To prevent the spread of the virus, approximately 37,000 animals at the location are being culled by the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA).

No other poultry farm is located within the 1-kilometer zone. Within the 3-kilometer zone, there is one other poultry farm that is being screened by the NVWA. In the 10-kilometer zone, there are 10 other farms with poultry. In total, this zone includes 11 farms.

Transport Ban

A transport ban is in effect immediately across the entire 10-kilometer zone. This means that no poultry, hatching eggs, or consumption eggs may be transported from locations with birds in this zone. There is also a ban on the removal of manure from birds and used bedding, as well as for other animals and animal products originating from companies with birds. These measures are necessary to prevent the spread to other parts of the country.

The location of the 10-kilometer zone can be seen on the Animal Disease Viewer of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO).

Tracing Research

The NVWA is conducting tracing research into risky contacts. This investigates whether products or poultry have been transported to and from this location in the period leading up to the report. If necessary, additional measures will follow, such as extra sampling or blocking a risky contact company. These measures will be communicated via an update in this press release and through the online channels of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature (LVVN).
