Fourth Suspect Arrested in Investigation into Art Theft from Drents Museum

The police have arrested a 26-year-old man from Heerhugowaard in Obdam. He is suspected of involvement in the art theft from the Drents Museum in Assen on Saturday, January 25. Earlier, the police had already arrested three suspects, who are still in custody. The stolen masterpieces have not yet been found.

This fourth arrested suspect is under full restrictions and is being questioned about his role in the art theft. He was arrested based on investigations by the detectives. The arrested suspect is not the person seen in footage from a hardware store in Assen. We are still looking for more information about the person in those images.

Searches at various locations

Following the arrest this morning, the police conducted searches at various locations, including a garage box in the municipality of Koggenland and a residence in Heerhugowaard. Data carriers, two vehicles, and clothing have been seized. Further investigations will be conducted regarding these items.

Investigation into stolen goods

The investigation is still ongoing. A team of dozens of detectives and specialists is working on the investigation into the art theft, prioritizing the recovery of the stolen goods. Extensive technical and tactical searches have been conducted in and around the Drents Museum, and investigations took place at other locations in Heerhugowaard, Alkmaar, Groningen, Assen, and Rolde. Various camera footage has also been requested and reviewed. Earlier, this already led to the arrests of three suspects.
