Key Change in Calculation Hearts: Calculating with Sloping Sound Barriers

In the new version of the calculation hearts for road and rail traffic, sloping sound barriers can also be implemented. The calculation heart for industrial noise has been corrected for calculations involving multiple barriers and facades. These are the key changes in the new versions published on February 20, 2025.

The Environmental Regulation allows calculations with sloping sound barriers. However, in the previous version of the calculation hearts for road and rail traffic, a sound barrier could only be modeled as a vertical plane. This has been adjusted. However, the analysis of sound paths and reflections will become significantly more extensive. This also means that calculation times will increase.

An overview of all adjustments can be found in the release notes in the zip file with the calculation hearts. The calculation hearts can be downloaded here.

About the Calculation Hearts

The RIVM provides three calculation hearts (free of charge) to users. With these calculation hearts, you can perform calculations for noise from road traffic, rail traffic, and industry. These calculation programs are based on the calculation methods described in Appendices IVe, IVf, and IVh of the Environmental Regulation.
