Cabinet Response to the Report ‘Grip on Information’

The cabinet responded to the report ‘Grip on Information’. This concerns issues in the information provision between the House and the cabinet. The recommendations will be implemented and the cabinet will continue to engage with the House.

The report ‘Grip on Information’ was prepared by the House of Representatives working group on information agreements. Through research and discussions with civil servants and cabinet members, the group identified challenges and explored how to enhance the information exchange between the House and the cabinet. The report addresses timely information provision, prompt responses to questions, more direct contact between officials and MPs, agreements regarding the oral question hour, and proactive disclosure of decision notes. Recommendations are directed at both the House and the cabinet.

Collaboration between cabinet and parliament

The report is said by the cabinet to contribute to the shared goal of a strong democratic rule of law, grounded in high-quality democratic decision-making. Adequate information provision is essential. It is important for the cabinet and the Houses to work together in establishing agreements that enhance better and more effective collaboration in practice. The cabinet looks forward to discussing this further with the House, starting on Thursday, January 23 during the committee debate on information and work agreements.
