The National Science Communication Day (NWD) is the annual event for everyone active in science communication. On this unique day, peers, professionals, and experts come together to share knowledge and expertise. This year, the NWD will take place on Monday, October 6, at the Railway Museum in Utrecht. Proposals for a content session on this day can be submitted until April 13, 2025.
Good science communication is crucial for explaining and enhancing the societal impact of science. The field contributes to bringing science to the attention of a broad audience, fostering a positive attitude toward science and technology, and justifying public expenditures and support for future spending. To continue professionalizing science communication, everyone working in or interested in science communication gathers annually at the National Science Communication Day. This way, the sector can inspire each other, learn from each other, and engage in conversations about this beautiful field.
Open Call
For the National Science Communication Day 2025, we call on peers to contribute relevant and interesting inputs to the day to offer an even richer and more current program. We warmly invite science communicators, practitioners, researchers, and journalists to submit a proposal for a content session that contributes to the development of science communication as a field and to the stronger connection between science and society. The deadline for submitting a proposal is April 13, 2025. More information about submitting the Open Call can be found on the website.
Theme: The Art of Understanding
How does science communication position itself in 2025 in the challenging public debate and how does it relate to the truth? Do science communicators and journalists sufficiently master the art of connecting and understanding through two-way communication? How do science communication and journalism truly bridge the gap between relevant scientific insights and society? These questions are central to the fourth edition of the National Science Communication Day with the theme ‘The Art of Understanding’.
Talk, think, doubt, share, listen, and wonder. Curiosity, embracing chaos, and strategic future thinking form the essence of the fourth edition of the NWD.
