Two unknown men were standing with a firearm in front of a house on Haarlemmer Houttuinen on Thursday evening, February 20, around 10:00 PM. After the police were alerted, the suspects fled in a white car with a British license plate. Multiple units initiated the chase. Near Korte Zoutkeetsgracht, officers signaled the car to stop. The car stopped, but then the passenger jumped out and ran away towards Houtmankade. One of the officers chased after him. He saw how the suspect first threw away a knife and then pulled out a firearm from his pants. The officer drew his service weapon and aimed it at the suspect. The suspect dropped the weapon on the ground and could then be arrested. The knife and the firearm have been seized.
Another officer was able to apprehend the driver by the car. The two suspects are a 22-year-old and a 25-year-old man without a fixed residence in the Netherlands. Their involvement in the earlier report of the attempted home invasion is being investigated and the detectives would like to contact anyone who has more information.
