Prison Sentence and TBS Requested Against Woman Suspected of Stabbing Her Partner to Death

This afternoon, the public prosecutor demanded eight years in prison and TBS with compulsory treatment against a 63-year-old woman suspected of manslaughter of her partner. She allegedly stabbed her 73-year-old partner to death in their shared home in Diemen on Sunday, January 14, 2024. The lifeless body of the man was found that day in their home. The woman was arrested that same day and has been in custody since.

The victim was stabbed multiple times in the chest and abdomen, and a belt was tied around his neck. The suspect was found – injured – on the bed in their bedroom. One of the first things she said to the police at that moment was that she killed him. She also handed the police a note stating that she destroyed everything and that she killed him.

Memory Loss?

After this confession, the suspect invoked her right to remain silent during the first interrogations. During the hearing before the examining magistrate a few days later, she indicated that she remembered nothing of what happened. In her summation, the public prosecutor stated this afternoon that it is difficult to determine whether the suspect really does not remember. “Even the professor of neuropsychology and law who conducted research into the alleged memory loss does not reach a clear conclusion. (-) It cannot be ruled out that she is feigning her memory loss.”

What exactly happened that day in the house is difficult to establish due to the alleged memory loss. The police have spoken to witnesses and studied camera footage in the investigation. Various conversations of the suspect have also been intercepted. These show that the suspect still remembers something from that fateful Sunday morning: issues regarding her partners health, concerns about a possible eviction, and annoyance about her partners behavior. However, those conversations do not provide a clear motive.

Eight Years in Prison and TBS with Compulsory Treatment

No evidence has emerged from the investigation that anything else was going on or that the suspect had planned to kill her partner beforehand. Experts have stated in court that they find it difficult to assess the risk of reoffending. Weighing everything, the public prosecutor comes to a demand for a sentence of eight years in prison and TBS with compulsory treatment on suspicion of manslaughter of her partner.
