Large MONO Operation in West Brabant Results in 243 Fines

Gebied: Baronie/Hart van Brabant

On Tuesday, February 25, the police conducted a large-scale MONO operation. During this second action day of the year, the focus was on the districts of Baronie and Hart van Brabant. With the deployment of no less than 35 police officers and 14 follow-up vehicles, they checked hundreds of road users.

From a tour bus, officers watched passing vehicles to check if drivers were holding a mobile device. Thanks to the height of the bus, both passenger cars and trucks could be well observed. Additionally, MONO cameras were deployed above the road at two locations to establish these violations. During the action, the control vehicles drove over the A16, A58, A27, A59, Ringbaan West in Tilburg, and the Midden-Brabantweg.

Details
During the inspection, one driver stood out in particular: he passed the police vehicles at different times and locations, both times with a phone in hand. This resulted in the driver receiving two fines of €439 each.

Results of the action
A total of 243 violations were recorded, for which a report was made:

  • Holding a mobile device while driving: 216 times (of which 103 with the MONO-Cam)
  • Exceeding the speed limit: 9 times
  • Using the point piece: 2 times
  • Failing to show a drivers license upon first request: 3 times
  • Driving over a solid line: 2 times
  • Not wearing a seatbelt: 2 times
  • Using the displacement area: 1 time
  • Ignoring a red traffic light: 3 times
  • Loose cargo (causing danger): 1 time
  • Not having a valid NIWO permit: 1 time
  • Ignoring an overtaking ban: 1 time
  • Unnecessary honking: 1 time
  • Having sharp or protruding cargo: 1 time

Traffic safety first
With this action, the police aims to raise awareness of the dangers of distraction in traffic and reduce the number of traffic victims. Drivers using their phone while driving pose a serious risk to themselves and others. The police will therefore continue to actively monitor distractions in traffic.
