The Dutch House of Representatives will debate on Wednesday, March 5, about the state of the war in Europe and the extraordinary European summit taking place the following day. The plenary debate can be followed live from 6:30 PM via the website and the Debat Direct app.
Prime Minister Dick Schoof, Minister Casper Veldkamp (Foreign Affairs), and Minister Ruben Brekelmans (Defense) will attend the debate in the House.
Extraordinary European Council
On Thursday, March 6, all heads of government of the European Union (EU) will gather for an extraordinary European Council. During this special summit, they will discuss further support for Ukraine and European defense. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has also been invited by the President of the European Council, António Costa. Prime Minister Dick Schoof will attend the meeting on behalf of the Netherlands.
Preparation for European Summit
The position that the Prime Minister will take during this European summit in Brussels will be discussed with the House in advance. A debate on the state of the war in Europe was already scheduled for Thursday, March 6. The House of Representatives has decided to combine this debate with the debate on the extraordinary European Council meeting.

The European Council consists of the heads of government or elected heads of state of all EU member states. The European Council determines the general political policy lines and priorities of the EU.
