The tram stops of lines 3 and 4 in The Hague will become more accessible for people with visual impairments. The municipality is installing new guide lines to ensure safer and easier access to the stops. The work will start in the course of 2025.
Alderman Robert Barker (Public Space, Animal Welfare & Environment): ‘In The Hague, everyone should be able to participate without limitations and move freely through the city. Unfortunately, there are still many obstacles for people with disabilities. By installing guide lines at tram stops, we make public transport more accessible for people with visual impairments. With a relatively small intervention, we make a big difference.’
Making Progress
Of the 41 tram stops on lines 3 and 4 that need adjustments, 24 are within the municipality of The Hague. These stops lack the connection between the stop and the natural guide line in the surroundings. To solve this, the municipality is installing 539 meters of new guide lines. €120,000 is allocated for these improvements.
To map the necessary adjustments, the municipality has collaborated with the Voorall foundation. This foundation advocates for residents of The Hague with disabilities and advises the municipality on measures to make The Hague more inclusive and accessible.
