Between November 15 and December 11, 2024, there were sixteen fraud cases in The Hague. Elderly individuals were contacted by fraudsters posing as bank employees or were connected to the police. Subsequently, debit cards and jewelry were collected. Payments were made using these stolen debit cards.
Team West and Social Media
On January 21, 2025, we showed footage of suspects making transactions with stolen debit cards in Team West and on social media. This occurred at various locations, including Steijnlaan in The Hague. The footage of the now-identified suspects has been removed.
Arrests
Following the broadcast, we received tips that led to two suspects and the owner of the stolen jewelry. An 18-year-old man from The Hague reported to the police on January 22. A 16-year-old boy was arrested on January 25. The 18-year-old was released after questioning but remains a suspect. The 16-year-old has been brought before a judge and remains in custody.
Investigation Programs
The police collaborates with local broadcasters for investigative communication. Through these programs, we ask for assistance in solving crimes. Suspect footage is regularly shown.
