Councilor Mieke Verhees: This is a great concrete example of innovation in construction. The old jeans get a nice repurposing and there is less CO2 emissions than with traditional insulation materials. We face major challenges in construction, and it is necessary to explore new ways to build faster, more sustainably, and affordably in the future. As a municipality, we support that. Therefore, we are helping with the collection of the jeans.
Trudo, together with development and construction company Hazenberg, is building 26 apartments for starters on St. Catharinastraat. The developers/builders focus on circular building and building with less CO2 impact. The material in which the old jeans are processed (Métisse insulation) is one way this is achieved. The project on St. Catharinastraat is one of the first projects in the Netherlands where this is applied.
