From Monday, March 3 to Sunday, March 9, the Municipality of The Hague, in collaboration with The Hague restaurants, is organizing the Sustainable Restaurant Week. During this week, participating restaurants will add extra plant-based dishes to their menus. Visitors can experience how delicious and surprising plant-based food can be.
Alderman Robert Barker (Public Space, Animal Welfare & Environment) warmly invites residents and visitors of The Hague to participate: ‘The Sustainable Restaurant Week is the opportunity to discover how tasty and varied plant-based food can be. Therefore, I urge everyone: be surprised by the flavorful plant-based dishes from The Hague restaurants and simultaneously contribute to a better climate.’
Versatile and Flavorful
During the Sustainable Restaurant Week, The Hague restaurants show how versatile and flavorful the plant-based cuisine can be – from a simple lunch to a culinary delight. The municipality organizes the week to introduce residents to plant-based eating. A plant-based menu is tasty, healthy, and contributes to a livable planet.
The Sustainable Restaurant Week coincides with the National Week Without Meat and Dairy(External link) which primarily focuses on home cooking. The Hagues week complements this by highlighting sustainable offerings in the hospitality industry.
The Hague Food Strategy
By 2050, approximately 10 billion mouths worldwide will need to be fed. This can only be done within the planets boundaries if we adjust our menus. Meat and dairy have a significant negative impact on our environment and climate. Therefore, The Hagues new Food Strategy focuses on a more sustainable menu with more plant-based dishes. Sustainable food requires less land and thus contributes not only to the health of humans and animals but also to a healthy planet.
Climate Deal: More Plant-Based on The Hagues Menu
Royal Dutch Hospitality Association (KHN) The Hague branch and the Municipality of The Hague are working together on The Hagues menu of the future. This menu features more local, healthy, and plant-based dishes. The Hague hospitality industry is encouraged to offer more plant-based dishes, which the municipality highlights, including during the Sustainable Restaurant Week.
