Nine illegal migrants arrested in Vlaardingen in ice-cold truck

Gebied: Vlaardingen

On January 24, nine illegal migrants were arrested in Vlaardingen in a truck. This truck was on a ship bound for England. The driver, a 40-year-old man from Turkey, was arrested on suspicion of human smuggling. The migrants, men aged between 25 and 42, come from Iraq, Turkey, and Kuwait. The police are conducting further investigations.

During a routine check, the police discovered a man under the truck. In the refrigerated compartment, which is normally -18 degrees, eight more men were found.

The migrants were arrested for not having valid identification and being on prohibited grounds. They were handed over to the Immigration Police Identification and Human Trafficking Department (AVIM) for identification. The Human Trafficking and Migration Crime Team (TMM) of AVIM is investigating the potential smuggling.

If you have tips about human trafficking or smuggling, please report this via the general police number or anonymously.
