Avian influenza detected in Bunschoten-Spakenburg (UT)

Avian influenza has been detected in Bunschoten-Spakenburg (UT) at a hobby breeder with ornamental waterfowl. This is likely a highly pathogenic variant. The NVWA is culling about 150 birds to prevent the spread of the virus.

There are no other poultry farms in the 1 kilometer zone. In the 3 kilometer zone, 2 farms are being screened and monitored intensively for 14 days. A transport ban applies to 20 farms in the 10 kilometer zone.

Transport Ban

A transport ban applies to all birds, eggs, and bird manure from the infected location. There are also hunting regulations. Hunting ducks is prohibited in this area. Check the current infections and measures on the map in the Disease Viewer from the RVO.

National Measures

National measures are in place, such as a ban on visiting bird enclosures of risk birds unless necessary. This applies to poultry, waterfowl, and ground birds. In the infected region, there is a housing obligation for commercially kept birds. For non-commercially kept risk birds, a shielding obligation applies. More information about the housing and shielding obligation can be found on the NVWA website here.

Tracing Investigation

A tracing investigation is being conducted regarding risky contacts in Bunschoten-Spakenburg. If necessary, additional measures will be taken, which will be communicated via updates in this press release and the online channels of the Ministry of LNV.
