Police Investigates Large-Scale Identity Fraud in Almere

Gebied: Almere

The police arrested a 38-year-old man from Almere in December 2024. He is suspected of stealing personal data from several residents in the Literature District and committing large-scale identity fraud. The police are urging several residents in the Literature District to check their personal data and file a report.

Many Stolen Mail Items

The police conducted a search at the suspects home. During that search, many mail items were found that were not in the name of the suspect, but in the name of presumed victims. The police also seized the suspects laptop and mobile phone. Many personal data of potential victims were also found on those devices.

Identity Fraud

The man is believed to have used the stolen personal data to impersonate others towards banks and the government. With that, he was able to check the financial situation of his victims and steal money from the bank accounts of some victims. The man also signed up for subscriptions in the names of his victims.

Reporting Identity Fraud

The police are urging several residents in the Literature District by letter to check their personal data as soon as possible. They are also asking them to file a report if they find they have become victims of identity fraud.
