On Sunday, September 14, 2003, police officers found the lifeless body of a then 33-year-old Tunisian resident of Rotterdam after a 112 call late in the evening. This occurred on Duivenvoordestraat in the Middelland district. He had been killed by violence.
Immediately, a large investigation was launched, but no arrest was made. However, forensic investigation secured DNA traces of the suspected perpetrator. In 2019, this resulted in a match when DNA was taken from the suspect in Sweden. The reason for this cannot be shared due to privacy regulations. Once the DNA matched stored DNA profiles in the international database, the man was found to be untraceable. He had since been internationally wanted. Recently, he could still be arrested in Sweden. The Swedish authorities subsequently extradited the man to the Netherlands.
The investigation has gained momentum with the arrest of the 51-year-old Libyan and continues unabated. A great result from the cold case team led by the Public Prosecution Service. In the background, research into the death of the Tunisian has been ongoing for all these years. To avoid disturbing the investigation, no further statements can be made at this time.
