Driving Instructors and Students Checked for Driving Under Influence

Gebied: Haarlem

Driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs makes traffic unsafe. It negatively affects your reaction and perception abilities. Its important to realize this if you have or want to obtain your drivers license. Therefore, on Wednesday, February 12, officers checked driving instructors and students on Professor Eijkmanlaan in Haarlem. Instructors were also asked for their valid WRM authorization pass, which is required to give driving lessons.

A total of 66 driving school cars were checked. Three warnings were issued:

  • Twice for not displaying an L during the driving lesson.
  • Once for not being able to show a drivers license.

Two people under the influence of drugs

Everyone underwent a breath and saliva test. A breath test can determine if someone has consumed too much alcohol. Everyone tested negative on the breath test.

A saliva test can determine if someone has used drugs. Two individuals tested positive on the saliva test. The woman and the man were arrested for driving under the influence of drugs.

Final penalty depends on investigation

Drugs and certain medications remain in your body for a long time and affect your driving ability. Consider medications with a yellow or red sticker on the packaging. A saliva test can indicate whether you have used drugs, and that use does not have to be on the same day. If your saliva test is positive, blood will be drawn by a doctor. This blood will be analyzed in a laboratory. It will reveal which drugs were detected and whether it is an illegal amount. Your final penalty depends on this.

More cars checked

In addition to the driving school cars, the police checked six other cars in the vicinity. There was:

  • One ticket issued for driving without a license.
  • One ticket issued for driving with a child without a child seat.
  • And one driver tested positive on the saliva test. He was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs.
