The municipality of Almere plans to build an outdoor swimming pool behind the indoor pool in Almere Stad. This proposal has been sent to the City Council. If approved, the pool will open in 2028. Studies show that building an outdoor pool is possible here.
Many residents of Almere have long wished for an outdoor swimming pool. This new pool will feature a 25-meter pool, a recreational pool, a toddler pool, and additional facilities for sports and relaxation. Alderman Paul Tang states: Since the 1990s, the number of outdoor pools in the Netherlands has decreased due to costs, but we see that physical activity is declining and obesity is increasing. Investing in an outdoor pool is investing in the health of the next generation of Almere residents.
After years of research, Almere Stad was chosen for its good accessibility and the combination with the indoor pool.
In the coming months, residents and stakeholders will be involved in the design of the pool to ensure it meets the citys needs.
