Conflict
On Thursday evening, December 5, around 7:20 PM, bystanders found a seriously injured man on the Stadsring. Emergency services were called, and the victim was taken to the hospital. Two weeks later, the 53-year-old victim died in the hospital from his injuries.
Intensive Investigation
The police are doing everything possible to determine how the victim was injured. A neighborhood investigation and interviews with various witnesses led to the scenario that there was a conflict at the heart of it. According to a witness, the victim had a dispute with another man, after which the victim was pushed and fell. The man who pushed would then have fled.
The escape route of the involved boy was tracked down, and CCTV footage was requested. With the help of investigative communication via (social) media and television, attempts were made to gather tips and information. The description of the suspect was disseminated in the hope that people would recognize him and report it, or that the suspect would come forward. The passerby investigation, in which detectives posted flyers at and around the scene of the incident and spoke with more than 800 citizens, yielded information. The police collected enough pieces of the puzzle to identify the 16-year-old suspect from Amersfoort. The boy was arrested on Tuesday, February 11, and his home was searched. He is suspected of being involved in the conflict that led to the mans injuries and ultimately his death.
