Police Investigates Connection Between Deceased Persons and a Drug Production Site

Gebied: Heerlen

On Friday, a man was arrested in Heerlen for involvement in a drug production site discovered in a garage. The man has appeared before a judge. Earlier this month, two men, aged 22 and 32, died in hospitals in the Netherlands and Belgium. Their deaths may be related to synthetic drugs.

Deceased

The police in Limburg is investigating whether the death of a man in a hospital in the Netherlands is linked to drug production. Whether the two victims from Heerlen, who recently died, are connected to the drug production site and the suspect is under investigation.

The circumstances of their death may be related to harmful substances from drug production. The police are investigating this case. The victims did not die at the production site or the house in Heerlen.

Dangerous chemicals are used in drug production, which is harmful to people and the environment.

House in Heerlen

In the garage of a house on Bartholomeo Diazstraat, the police found dozens of kilograms of amphetamine and Ecstasy pills. All drugs have been seized. The suspect was later found in another house in Heerlen and arrested.

Closing the premises

Mayor Roel Wever of Heerlen responds to the discovery of this drug production site: “The amount of drugs and materials is so concerning that I immediately sent a notice to close the house for a year. The owner can respond to this. I intend to act quickly so that the closure can happen within a few weeks. As all dangerous substances have been removed, there is no immediate danger to the surrounding area.”

Life-Threatening

Mayor Wever: “Drug labs are life-threatening. They are illegal factories where explosive and toxic substances are used. This is dangerous for both the people working there and the surrounding area. There are many examples of explosions and fires caused by illegal drug production. The explosion in Rotterdam in January 2024 is a sad example. Society also incurs high costs for cleaning up contaminated areas. Report suspicious activities immediately! Every report can help dismantle a dangerous production site.”

How to Recognize a Drug Production Site?

  • A drug lab often has tinted or covered windows;
  • They have large doors for delivery vans;
  • There is a strong chemical smell;
  • Cracks in windows and doors are often sealed;
  • People and vans at odd hours.
