The robbery took place on January 30 at Draaibrugpad, in the tunnel near Oost-Souburg. Two young men threatened the woman with a knife and stole her scooter. The duo then rode away on the scooter, crashing into the tunnel due to their clumsy driving. The woman was physically unharmed but was understandably shaken by the incident.
Doesnt Add Up
By chance, the police came across two young men riding a scooter without helmets in February. The duo was asked to stop but did not comply. After a chase, they were eventually apprehended. Their story didn’t add up. The police seized the vehicle and launched an investigation.
And what turned out: the scooter the boys were riding belonged to the woman who was previously a victim of the scooter theft earlier this year. The scooter had been repainted in a different color and was fitted with a false license plate.
The two 15-year-old suspects from Middelburg were arrested on Monday, March 3. After questioning, one of the suspects was released, while the second suspect remains in custody.
Reporting Helps: Another Suspect
The police continued the investigation, and thanks to an MMA report, they tracked down a new suspect. This was again a 15-year-old boy from Middelburg, who was arrested on Saturday afternoon, March 8.
The police thank tipsters for sharing important information. Reports from observant neighbors can play a crucial role in solving cases. Thanks to them, the woman has her scooter back – albeit damaged.
