The House of Representatives has decided not to hold public hearings during future cabinet formations. This decision follows the formation of the Schoof cabinet in 2024, where candidates presented themselves in public committee meetings. The initiative was based on a motion by Joost Sneller (D66). During a debate on January 16, 2025, it was discussed whether hearings are necessary for a future cabinet. The House decided there is no constitutional basis for this and agreed with Diederik van Dijks (SGP) motion to discontinue the hearings. The appointment of ministers and state secretaries is the Kings prerogative.
